Call to Worship, Advent Litany Love

1 Corinthians 13:4,5b,7; 1 John 4:9; Luke 2:12

“Love is patient. Love is kind. Love is not easily angered. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. This is how God showed His love: He sent His one and only Son into the world that we might live through Him. And this will be a sign to you; you will find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes and lying in a manger.”

(LIGHT CANDLES)

On this 4th Sunday of Advent, as we think about the coming of Jesus, we light the candle of love. How great is the love the Father has lavished on us! God’s perfect love is shown to us through His Son by Jesus leaving His throne and coming to earth to die on the cross so that we can have eternal life. Jesus commands us to love one another as He has loved us. For it is as we show His love that we will be known as his disciples and others will know of God’s love for them.

Join with me as we say together,

God is love.

Whoever lives in love, lives in God
 and God in them.

Lord, reveal your love,

and make us new.

Worship Song, Shout To the Lord

Verse

My Jesus my Saviour
Lord there is none like You
All of my days I want to praise
The wonders of Your mighty love
My comfort my shelter
Tower of refuge and strength
Let every breath all that I am
Never cease to worship You

Chorus

Shout to the Lord
All the earth let us sing
Power and majesty
Praise to the King
Mountains bow down
And the seas will roar
At the sound of Your name
I sing for joy
At the work of Your hands
Forever I'll love You
Forever I'll stand
Nothing compares to the promise
I have in You

Worship Song, #244 "Come Thou Long Expected Jesus"

VERSE 1

Come Thou long expected Jesus
Born to set Thy people free
From our fears and sins release us
Let us find our rest in Thee
Israel's strength and consolation
Hope of all the earth Thou art
Dear desire of every nation
Joy of every longing heart

VERSE 2

Born Thy people to deliver
Born a child and yet a King
Born to reign in us forever
Now Thy gracious Kingdom bring
By Thine own eternal Spirit
Rule in all our hearts alone
By Thine all sufficient merit
Raise us to Thy glorious throne

Benediction

December Benevolence

The Retired Ministers and Missionaries Offering (RMMO) originated in the mid-1930s, when American Baptist congregations received a Communion Fellowship Offering on the first Sunday of each month to support retired ministers, missionaries, their widowed spouses and elderly clergy within their churches. In 1977, American Baptist Churches USA launched RMMO to continue this appreciation of God’s service.

This years RMMO theme is “Transformed by Generosity” with supporting Scripture from 2 Corinthian 3:18: “And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit”.
