April Mission - Mission to Chinese Seamen
During the month of April we will be collecting funds to support the Mission to Chinese Seamen (MCS). MCS “brings Christ in word and deed to Chinese, Asian, and African seafarers in the ports of Philadelphia”. These seamen spend most of the year away from their home and families and must deal with the monotony and isolation of life on board a ship. MCS provides services such as shopping, counseling, phone calls to home, Bible studies, discipleship, and prayer. Sightseeing and shopping trips are provided when the men are permitted to leave the ship. The love of Christ is demonstrated through these acts of kindness.
Each December ditty bags are distributed to the seamen who often come from warmer climates and do not have winter clothing. Each ditty bag contains hat, scarf, gloves, socks, balaclava, and a Gospel tract. This past year 302 ditty bags were delivered. The latest Seamen’s Post contains pictures of delivery - not an easy process! Seamen’s Post March 2020
The current COVID-19 pandemic has decreased the number of ships arriving in Philadelphia ports and limited visitation, yet the work of bringing Christ to this forgotten population continues.
