Call to Worship - based on Psalm 19:1-4, NRSV

The heavens are telling the glory of God; and the firmament proclaims his handiwork. Day to day pours forth speech, and night to night declares knowledge. There is no speech, nor are there words; their voice is not heard; yet their voice goes out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world. The glory of God echoes throughout the world. Let us praise the name of the Lord.

January Benevolence: Mission to Chinese Seamen

“The ocean depths raise their voice, O LORD; they raise their voice and roar. The LORD rules supreme in heaven, greater than the roar of the ocean, more powerful than the waves of the sea.” (Psalm 93:3-4)

The Mission to Chinese Seamen reaches out to seafarers from many nations right here at the port of Philadelphia. Merchant Seamen typically spend ten months or more each year on board ship and only two months in their home country with family and friends.  The life of a seafarer is often lonely, monotonous and many times dangerous.  Seamen are truly a forgotten people group because they are an international population constantly on the move.

Day of Service - Volunteers and baked goods are needed Monday, January 18, 2016, 10am - 3 pm at Sam's Club, Cinnaminson, NJ (dress warmly). Clergy and members of the Houses of Worship will be raising awareness for the homelessness in our community and offering finger desserts to everyone who supports the homeless cause. Please consider baking  cookies, brownies, or cupcakes to be distributed to donors on MLK Day. Also ask for volunteers to stand by the doors of Sam's Club between the hours of 10am-3pm.
