January Benevolence – Mission to Chinese Seamen

“The ocean depths raise their voice, O LORD; they raise their voice and roar. The LORD rules supreme in heaven, greater than the roar of the ocean, more powerful than the waves of the sea.” (Psalm 93:3-4)

The Mission to Chinese Seamen reaches out to seafarers from many nations right here at the port of Philadelphia. Merchant Seamen typically spend ten months or more each year on board ship and only two months in their home country with family and friends.  The life of a seafarer is often lonely, monotonous and many times dangerous.  Seamen are truly a forgotten people group because they are an international population constantly on the move.

The Church Must Speak

On this Martin Luther King Day we invite everyone to read the pastoral letter sent by our Interim Executive Minster and Senior Regional Pastor, Rev. Dr. Elmo Familiaran.

Our regional family is unique in all of the regions of ABCUSA because we are blessed with racial and ethnic diversity that mirrors the kingdom! The members of our more than 280 churches come from every continent on this planet, except Antartica, and has made us who we are and shaped our peculiar witness for Jesus Christ. Our region has no real ethnic majority. This is what makes us a singularly unique region in our denominational family because, together, we represent the humanity of God’s desire.

The heavens are telling the glory of God;

and the firmament proclaims his handiwork.

Day to day pours forth speech,

and night to night declares knowledge.

There is no speech, nor are there words;

and their words to the end of the world.

The glory of God echoes throughout the world.

Let us praise the name of the Lord.
