“It Is Finished”
Thus spoke Jesus as he gave up his spirit and died on a Roman cross. One of the highest of Christian holy days is marked by an apparent defeat, the death of the Messiah.
Good Friday is an introspective day, where we are encouraged to remember Jesus’ suffering on our behalf. But it is also hopeful. Jesus’ words, “It is finished” echo over this commemoration, and have for over two thousand years. They provoke worshippers to ponder the statement even as the enormity of sorrow is expressed. What do they mean? What is finished? And, is that a faint light of a distant morn we see on the horizon?
Come. Gather with our fellow believers from Epworth United Methodist and Bethany Lutheran as we ponder Jesus’ sacrifice and wonder anew at the victory it won.
