Worship Song, “I Sing The Mighty Power of God”

Verse 1

I sing the mighty pow'r of God
That made the mountains rise
That spread the flowing seas abroad
And built the lofty skies
I sing the wisdom that ordained
The sun to rule the day
The moon shines full at His command
And all the stars obey

Verse 2

I sing the goodness of the Lord
That filled the earth with food
He formed the creatures with His word
And then pronounced them good
Lord how Thy wonders are displayed
Where'er I turn my eye
If I survey the ground I tread
Or gaze upon the sky

Verse 3

There's not a plant or flow'r below
But makes Thy glories known
And clouds arise and tempests blow
By order from Thy throne
While all that borrows life from Thee
Is ever in Thy care
And everywhere that man can be
Thou God art present there

Over all my dreams in my darkest hour
You are the Lord of all I am
So won't You reign in me again

Verse 2

Over every thought over every word
May my life reflect the beauty of my Lord
'Cause You mean more to me
Than any earthly thing
So won't You reign in me again

Benediction

July Benevolence - Urban Promise

”Our mission at UrbanPromise has been to equip Camden's children and young adults with the skills necessary for academic achievement, life management, spiritual growth, and Christian leadership. We strive to fulfill this mission through after-school programs, summer camps, two schools, experiential learning, job training, and a host of other programs that challenge youth to develop and realize their potential.” http://urbanpromiseusa.org/home

Urban Promise offers K-12 education as a private, Christian school featuring small class size and opportunities to learn outside the classroom. Additional programs include AfterSchool programs and Summer camps; Street Leader program; UrbanTrekkers; Urban BoatWorks; and Wellness Center.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, fundraisers and traditional sources of revenue are not available yet the need to support the school and staff continues. “A vibrant, healthy UrbanPromise will be needed in a post-coronavirus Camden. We cannot close our doors. We cannot retreat.”

Children’s Book Drive

Central is joining with some other local churches to collect new and/or gently used children’s books, ages infant to grade six, to donated to BookSmile.org. This organization supports under-served communities in New Jersey, helping children build up their personal libraries and encouraging strong literacy.

Books will be collected beginning June 21, and collection will continue through the month of July. There are several drop off points:

  • Central Baptist Church (outside the ramp door behind the building)

  • Bethany Lutheran Church

  • Sacred Heart

  • Palmyra Harbour Clubhouse

Guest Preacher—Dr. Joseph B. Modica (Chaplain, Eastern University)

Taken from Eastern’s website.

Dr. Modica often remarks to students: "One day I couldn't spell the word 'chaplain,' then the next day, I became one." Dr. Modica’s journey to Eastern University has been a circuitous, yet enriching one. Working as a foster care social worker, attending seminary in Nyack, NY, pastoring a church in Queens, NY, working with the American Red Cross (Manhattan) Homeless Family Services, and being a graduate student in New Jersey, have all shaped his vocation. He has personally discovered what Frederick Buechner observed when defining the word "vocation": "The place God calls you to (Eastern University) is the place where your deep gladness (involvement in the lives of college students) and the world's deep hunger (forming college students for lives of integrity and following Jesus) meet.” He thanks God each day for this opportunity.

Dr. Modica sees himself primarily as a pastor-scholar: someone who attempts to model a robust gospel, an ecumenical spirit, a generous orthodoxy, a formative hospitality and respectful conversations.
