Call to Worship

Praise the LORD, O my soul;
all my inmost being, praise his holy name.

Praise the LORD, O my soul,
and forget not all his benefits.

Praise the LORD, you his angels,
you mighty ones who do his bidding, who obey his word.

Praise the LORD, all his heavenly hosts,
you his servants who do his will.

Praise the LORD,
all his works everywhere in his dominion.

Praise the LORD, O my soul.

—Psalm 103:1-2, 20-22, NIV

Hymn, “Praise the Lord! Ye Heavens Adore Him“

Verse 1

Praise the Lord ye heavens adore Him
Praise Him angels in the height
Sun and moon rejoice before Him
Praise Him all ye stars and light
Praise the Lord for He hath spoken
Worlds His mighty voice obeyed
Laws which never shall be broken
For their guidence He hath made

Verse 2

Worship honor glory blessing
Lord we offer unto Thee
Young and old Thy praise expressing
In glad homage bend the knee
All the saints in heav'n adore Thee
We would bow before Thy throne
As Thine angels serve before Thee
So on earth Thy will be done

Verse 3

Praise the Lord for He is glorious
Never shall His promise fail
God hath made His saints victorious
Sin and death shall not prevail
Praise the God of our salvation
Hosts on high His power proclaim
Heaven and earth and all creation
Laud and magnify His name

My Jesus I love Thee I know Thou art mine
For Thee all the follies of sin I resign
My gracious Redeemer my Savior art Thou
If ever I loved Thee my Jesus 'tis now

Verse 2

I love Thee because Thou hast first loved me
And purchased my pardon on Calvary's tree
I love Thee for wearing the thorns on Thy brow
If ever I loved Thee my Jesus 'tis now

Verse 3

I'll love Thee in life I will love Thee in death
And praise Thee as long as Thou lendest me breath
And say when the death dew lies cold on my brow
If ever I loved Thee my Jesus 'tis now

In mansions of glory and endless delight
I'll ever adore Thee in heaven so bright
I'll sing with the glittering crown on my brow
If ever I loved Thee my Jesus 'tis now

September Benevolence - Eastern University

Our mission focus for September is Eastern University. Many in our church community have a direct connection to the university and we have been blessed in the past with participation of students and faculty in our worship services. Your donation helps to keep tuition costs low and provide services for the students.

Eastern University is dedicated to ideas, inquiry, and the development of people of faith who will enhance the quality of society and the church.  Toward that end, Eastern will continue to expand its formative role in the world as a university in which knowledge and wisdom are imbued, Christlike engagement is inspired, and stewardship is modeled.

Quite literally, every part of Eastern benefits from your support. The most fundamental impact is on student scholarships and aid. Annual gifts also equip our science and computer labs, help to build the library collections, and maintain our beautiful grounds. If you received a scholarship, studied by the ponds, or had class in McInnis, then you have experienced the impact of Eastern Fund gifts.

The mission focus for August is Riverview Estates, “a South Jersey faith-based assisted living and skilled nursing care community based in Riverton, NJ”. COVID-19 is particularly serious for the elderly, such as the residents at Riverview. Maintaining the health and safety of the residents and staff is challenging and requires additional resources and creativity to balance the needs of the residents while keeping this highly contagious virus away.

Riverview Estates opened in 1954 and has been providing skilled nursing, assisted living, and rehabilitation services for close to 70 years. The organization has adapted to many changes over these years and is now called upon to adapt to this novel coronavirus. Your support is greatly appreciated.

Pastor’s Study Group—Meditative Fiction

Pastor Wes will be leading a five week study group on Jesus’ Beatitudes, beginning in September. For more information, follow this link.

Wellness Hour

The last few months have hit the spiritual lives of many people rather hard. The loss of rhythm, physical presence of the community, and general familiarity have taken their toll. This is why Larry Merrill came up with the idea for “Wellness Hour.” We need to be with other people.

Drop in for a time of connection, prayer, and an occasional devotion. Mitigation guidance will be in effect and masks are required. Stay for the hour, or just pop in for a moment to be reminded of our incarnational connection with each other.

The first gathering will be Saturday, September 19, 2020, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 Noon. More dates can be found on Central Baptist’s web page.

The Story

Beginning September 27, join Amanda for a Sunday School class which will lead participants on a 31 week journey to read the entire Bible. This class will use The Story: The Bible as One Continuing Story of God and His People.
